Section 3.5: TouchTerm Pro Gestures
Taps | Swipes | Combinations
At the heart of TouchTerm Pro is the Gesture Engine, which interprets touches on the Terminal display and triggers Events based on the gesture that was performed.
Note that the Gesture Engine is highly configurable; many of the parameters that control whether or not a given gesture is recognized by the engine are user-configurable. See the Gesture Engine Configuration section for more details on tailoring the settings so that they are most comfortable for your usage.
By default, TouchTerm provides graphical feedback whenever the Gesture Engine recognizes a Gesture, and succesfully triggers the corresponding Event Mapping. This feedback is in the form of a small graphic that slowly fades out on the Terminal display, and indicates the type of gesture that was recognized. Note that this feedback can be disabled using the Gesture Feedback option.
To help with getting quickly acclimated to TouchTerm Pro's collection of gestures, we highly recommend using the Gesture Practice configuration Profile.
| Taps | (Back to Top) |
TouchTerm recognizes several variations of the standard Tap gesture. First, you can perform Double-Taps and Triple-Taps by tapping in the same location in rapid succession.
TouchTerm also recognizes a Tap-and-Hold gesture, which is similar to a Tap, except that you must leave your finger on the screen for a few moments before removing it. There are corresponding Double-Tap-and-Hold and Triple-Tap-and-Hold gestures, which are performed by "holding" on the last Tap only.
All six of these Tap variations can also be configured to trigger different Events when performed in a particular "hot" location. The available "hot" areas are the four corners and four edges. So, for example, you can have a Upper-Left Double-Tap gesture, which is only triggered when a Double-Tap is performed near the upper-left corner of the Terminal display.
When configuring Tap Events, use the "Anywhere" Event subtype to allow the Event to trigger regardless of where it is on the screen.
All Tap gestures are location-based, which means that they can be used to trigger location-based, Actions.
| Swipes | (Back to Top) |
A Swipe gesture is performed by placing your finger on the Terminal display, and then dragging it in a straight line, in a particular direction.
The Gesture Engine recognizes Swipe gestures in eight directions: the four cardinal directions (Up, Down, Left, Right), and the four diagonal directions.
| Combinations | (Back to Top) |
Swipe gestures can be performed in sequence to trigger the various combination gestures recognized by the Gesture Engine:
- Double-Swipe: two successive Swipe gestures in the same direction.
- Swipe-and-Swipe-Back: two successive Swipe gestures, in opposite directions.
- Swipe-and-Tap: a Swipe gesture, followed immediately by a single Tap gesture.
- Tap-and-Swipe: a single Tap gesture, followed immediately by a Swipe gesture.
